A new website offering you the unique opportunity to participate in a worldwide project to help preserve the memories of the people who survived the WWII concentration camp at Auschwitz. By filling in the registration form on this page, and donating to the Auschwitz hospice fund, you can learn about history directly from those who experienced it and, in so doing, help carry their ‘relay of memory and life’.

Background and project goals

The events that took place at the Auschwitz concentration camp during WWII are rightly recognized as some of the greatest injustices committed in the entire history of mankind. Nevertheless, the few Auschwitz survivors still alive have a positive message for the younger generation and they want to communicate it to you, your class and your school.

Year by year, the number of survivors left is slowly diminishing. As a result, this website is the opportunity of a lifetime for young people everywhere to learn about the history of Auschwitz – directly from the people who experienced it firsthand.

Despite their advanced years, the survivors of Auschwitz remain very active. Currently, one of the projects dearest to their hearts is the raising of funds to build a hospice in the city of Auschwitz itself. Achieving this goal would serve two important purposes for them: firstly, it would provide assistance to those survivors who are in need; and, secondly, it would help preserve the true story of what happened at Auschwitz.

How this website works

To raise the necessary funds for building the hospice, the survivors have created virtual pathways from Auschwitz to the capital cities of countries in Europe. Each person, class or school who donates to the project is represented by a virtual tree planted in the pathway of their choice. The more people that donate, the more trees will be planted. Each tree can contain either your name, the name of your class, or the name of your school.

To donate, simply visit our virtual nursery and pick your tree. You can buy a tree for as little as one euro. The bigger the donation, the bigger the tree.

If you are a class, or a school, you can collect your money together and plant a very big tree, such as a large oak. Every single euro you give will be transferred to the Auschwitz Hospice Foundation and put towards the completion of this important and historic project.

The governments of Japan, Italy and Switzerland, and many non-governmental organizations, have already donated to this project. Please join them and help make the Auschwitz survivors' dream a reality.

Your contribution, no matter how small, will be very gratefully received.

How you can benefit from donating

Before you visited this website, you may not even have been aware that some of the survivors of Auschwitz are still alive. And, even if you were aware of this, you will almost certainly never have considered the possibility of communicating with them.

In recognition of this, every single contributor to the project will receive a monthly email from one of the survivors.

What a great opportunity to learn about history directly from the people who experienced it!

And, even more importantly, by donating to this project and communicating with the survivors, you can help build a better world and a more peaceful future for us all. For, as the philosopher and poet George Santayana once said: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

So, let's get started! Just fill in the registration form opposite, click send, and follow the instructions when you get to the nursery.
